Most of the ten minutes is a one-time Google Cloud setup — Gutenback connects to your own Google account, so Google requires you to create your own OAuth credentials first.
Open the setup wizard
Go to Guten Backup in wp-admin. With no Google Drive connection yet, a 5-step wizard walks you through creating a Google Cloud project, enabling the Drive API, setting up the OAuth consent screen, and creating an OAuth client ID — with a deep link to each Google Cloud Console screen you need.
Once backups are confirmed working, go back to the OAuth consent screen and click Publish App. Leaving it in Testing status causes the connection to silently expire after 7 days, which is the single most common cause of a Gutenback backup failing with a “not connected” email.
Connect and configure
Paste the Client ID and Secret from Google Cloud, click Connect Google Drive, and approve the “unverified app” prompt (expected, since it is your own private app). Then set a schedule, retention, and optionally a backup password for AES-256 encryption.
Run a backup
Click Backup now at any time. It appears in the Backups table with its size, whether it reached Drive, and Restore/Download actions.
